WordPress Tools Guide (Part 2): Import & Export Utilities

Learn how to migrate content, export database backups, and manage core data structures.

Because Website Buildy gives you unrestricted access to the Tools menu, you have the full power to migrate content into or out of your website. In this second part, we will discuss how to use the Import and Export engines to manage your website data assets.

📥 1. The Import Engine (Moving Data In)

Navigate to Tools → Import. If you are moving to Website Buildy from an old external website, you can use this interface to automatically pull your old content into your new layout:

    • WordPress Importer: If your old site was built on WordPress, you can upload a standard .xml export file here. The engine will instantly recreate your old blog posts, static pages, comments, custom categories, and media attachments inside your new site.
    • Other Platforms: The interface also features dedicated migration paths for external platforms like Blogger, LiveJournal, or RSS feeds.

📤 2. The Export Engine (Moving Data Out)

Navigate to Tools → Export. If you ever want to download a hard copy of your website content for safekeeping or migration, this tool creates an encrypted XML file for you:

    • All Content: Selecting this will export every single page, post, product entry, review, custom navigation link, and media reference file on your current system.
    • Selective Exports: You can choose to export *only* your Posts, *only* your Pages, or *only* your Product listings if you just want to copy a specific section of your site to another directory.

⚠️ CRITICAL ADVICE FOR ADVANCED TOOLS: Depending on your account tier, you may also see advanced options like the Theme File Editor or Plugin File Editor under this menu. Do NOT modify code files directly in these editors unless you are an expert developer. Writing incorrect code syntax here can crash your theme layout instantly, causing a site error that can only be fixed by our support team.

💡 Pro-Tip: Running a content import or export will not change your core design layouts or delete your active settings. It simply manages your raw text data and media assignments.

WordPress Tools Guide (Part 1): Site Health & Data Privacy

Monitor your website’s performance indicators and manage data privacy requests securely.

The Tools panel in your WordPress dashboard contains critical diagnostic utilities. Because Website Buildy does not restrict your access to these components, you have full control over your backend utilities. In this first part, we will explore the tools designed for safety, performance tracking, and data compliance.

🏥 1. Site Health (Your Performance Diagnostic Panel)

Navigate to Tools → Site Health. This interface automatically scans your system setup and reports critical issues or recommended improvements regarding site optimization:

    • Status Screen: This gives you a quick health checkup score. It will highlight if any active layouts need updates or if your memory thresholds are optimal.
    • Info Tab: This section contains granular details about your website architecture (such as server parameters, active directories, and database sizing). If you ever request custom assistance from support, copying the log from this screen helps our admin diagnose your network environment faster.

🔒 2. Export & Erase Personal Data (Privacy Compliance)

If you handle data compliance laws or if an e-commerce customer formally requests to withdraw their personal records from your online storefront, you can manage their information using these two functions:

    • Export Personal Data: Enter the user’s username or email address. The system will gather all user profile data, order history, and metadata, packaging it into a clean zip file that you can safely email to them.
    • Erase Personal Data: If a buyer requests total record removal, putting their email address here completely purges their customer footprint from your WordPress database logs instantly.

💡 Safe Utilities: The options covered in Part 1 are completely diagnostic or request-based. They will not disrupt your layout frontend, making them perfectly safe to explore whenever you need to check your system performance.
