WordPress Settings Guide (Part 2): Discussion & Media

Manage customer interactions, comment sections, and optimize your asset uploads.

In this second part of our configuration series, we will focus on managing interactions on your platform and understanding how files behave. Setting up your Discussion and Media options correctly ensures a clean, spam-free environment while keeping storage usage efficient.

πŸ’¬ 1. Discussion Settings (Controlling Comments & Spam)

Navigate to Settings β†’ Discussion. This area controls how public users interact with your blog posts and pages. To keep your brand safe from spam bots, configure these critical checkmarks:

    • Default post settings: If your website is purely a business brochure or an e-commerce store, you may uncheck “Allow people to submit comments on new posts” to disable comment sections globally.
    • Other comment settings: Always check the box for “Comment author must fill out name and email”. This acts as a basic filter to stop anonymous spam.
    • Before a comment appears: For maximum security, check “Comment must be manually approved”. This ensures no random text or malicious links show up on your live site without your consent.

πŸ–ΌοΈ 2. Media Settings (Image Scaling Standards)

Navigate to Settings β†’ Media. This panel dictates how WordPress automatically crops and sizes images when you upload them to your Media Library:

    • Pre-configured Sizing: Website Buildy automatically sets standardized thumbnail, medium, and large dimensions behind the scenes. This ensures your layouts remain perfectly responsive across mobile screens, tablets, and desktops.
    • Organizing Uploads: Keep the checkbox “Organize my uploads into month and year-based folders” active. This maintains a clean server infrastructure, making your media assets easy to track.

πŸš€ Next-Gen Image Compression Active: Remember that our server framework automatically compresses your images into optimized web formats upon upload. While you do not need to alter default media pixels, always try to upload compressed files to maximize your allotted modular storage.

πŸ’Ύ Save Your Settings: Do not forget to scroll to the bottom of your screen and click Save Changes before leaving the page.

  • WordPress Settings Guide (Part 1): General & Reading Essentials

WordPress Settings Guide (Part 1): General & Reading

Configure your basic website identity and homepage display settings correctly.

When you log into your new WordPress dashboard, the system is already optimized and secure. However, you need to configure a few critical options to match your personal business brand. In this first part, we will focus on the General and Reading settings.

βš™οΈ 1. General Settings (Your Site Identity)

To access this, navigate to Settings β†’ General on your left dashboard menu. Here are the critical options you need to update:

    • Site Title: Change this to your official business name (e.g., My Local Shop LLC). This is the text that appears on your customers’ browser tabs.
    • Tagline: Provide a brief description of what your business does in one short sentence (e.g., Premium Furniture & Appliances).
    • Administration Email Address: Ensure this is your active email. All website notifications, password reset requests, and contact form alerts will be sent here.
⚠️ CRITICAL WARNING: Do NOT change the WordPress Address (URL) or Site Address (URL) fields. Changing these will break your domain routing and completely lock you out of your website.

πŸ“– 2. Reading Settings (Your Homepage Display)

Navigate to Settings β†’ Reading. This controls how visitors land on your website:

    • Your homepage displays: By default, our pre-installed templates select A static page.
    • Homepage Selection: Ensure that the dropdown menu next to “Homepage” is set to your actual main landing page (usually named Home or Main Layout). If you accidentally change this, your website will display a blank page or a list of blog posts instead of your custom store design.

πŸ’Ύ Always Save Your Changes: Whenever you modify settings in any section, scroll down to the very bottom of the page and click the blue Save Changes button, or your progress will be lost.

  • Technical Guide: Managing Custom Domains in Your Tenant Dashboard

Managing Your Domains via Tenant Dashboard

How to set primary URLs, verify routing status, or remove connected domains.

In addition to configuring your custom domain via our Support Ticket System, you have full control to manage your connected domains directly. Simply log into your Dashboard and navigate to the Domains section to use the following features:

    πŸ”— Set Primary Domain

If you are currently using a temporary subdomain (e.g., mybusiness.websitebuildy.com) and have successfully pointed your custom domain (mybusiness.com) through our managed Cloudflare infrastructure, you can set your custom domain as the Primary address.

How to do it: Locate your custom domain in the list, click Set Primary, and save your changes. This will instantly become the main website address visible to your buyers across the web.

    πŸ”„ Verify Connection Status

Before a newly assigned domain goes fully live, it must pass a global DNS propagation check. You can track the real-time status of your domain directly inside your control panel.

How to do it: Click the Verify button to trigger a forced system re-check to confirm whether your domain routing has propagated across the network.

    ❌ Remove Domain

If you have rebranded or have an old domain you no longer use, you can permanently remove it from your website engine to prevent unnecessary routing conflicts.

How to do it: Simply click the Remove button located next to the specific domain you want to disconnect.

⚠️ Important Notice: Avoid removing domains or altering your Primary URL while an active support ticket is being processed by our administrative team. Always wait for final setup confirmation via your ticket before modifying these advanced settings to avoid unexpected site downtime.

Introduction to Website Buildy: Core WordPress Functions

Get familiar with the main parts of your WordPress dashboard to run your online business smoothly.

About Us, at Contact Page.

  • Technical Guide: Connecting Your Custom Domain Name

How to Connect Your Custom Domain

Route your brand domain through Website Buildy’s managed Cloudflare Enterprise infrastructure.

πŸš€ Enterprise Infrastructure & Security Plan Perks

To guarantee bulletproof security and instant page loads over local mobile networks, all Website Buildy origin servers strictly accept traffic routed through our Cloudflare integration. Connecting your custom domain via our managed Nameservers (NS) unlocks massive built-in benefits at zero additional cost:

    • Website Plus Plan: Includes Full Edge Cache, delivering static page copies directly from global edge nodes to eliminate loading latency.
    • Website Pro & Ultra Plans: Includes full Cloudflare Enterprise Infrastructure with prioritized bandwidth routing and continuous database optimization.
    • All Managed Plans: Includes our custom Unified Web Application Firewall (WAF) to block malicious bots and DDoS attacks, plus complimentary Business Email setup (e.g., [email protected]).

πŸ‘‰ For a deep dive into the technology behind this architecture, read our full official guide: Cloudflare Edge Cache: Faster, Safer Web Performance with Website Buildy.

Connecting your custom domain requires zero technical stress. Follow these two simple steps to activate your platform routing:

    1. Input Your Domain & Open a Support Ticket

If you choose to let us manage your DNS via Nameservers (NS) to unlock these free enterprise features, first register your domain identity in your portal and request your assigned Cloudflare Nameservers:

    1. Log into your personal Dashboard and enter your custom domain name in your site setup parameters.
    2. Submit a request through our Support Ticket System.
    3. Select the Technical Support & Domains category, provide your domain name (e.g., mybusiness.com), and request domain activation.
⚠️ CRITICAL SECURITY WARNING: Do NOT point or link our backend server IP address directly on third-party portals or external DNS managers. Our origin servers strictly block unverified direct connections to stop server-level exploits.

    2. Update Nameservers at Your Domain Registrar

Once our engineering team maps your domain in our Cloudflare backend, our admin will reply to your ticket with two (2) official Cloudflare Nameservers.

When you receive these entries, complete the setup:

    • Log in to your domain registrar portal (GoDaddy, Namecheap, NameSilo, Porkbun, etc.).
    • Navigate to the Nameservers or DNS Management setting for your domain.
    • Select Custom Nameservers, paste the two assigned Cloudflare Nameservers provided in your ticket, and click Save.

⚠️ Important Note on Cloudflare APO (Automatic Platform Optimization): Do NOT purchase or enable Cloudflare’s paid APO plugin. Our server architecture is already fine-tuned with server-level LiteSpeed, Redis caching engines, and native Edge Caching. Running APO on top of our engine creates direct system conflicts and breaks page loading mechanics.

βš™οΈ Managing Your Own Cloudflare Account: You are free to decline our managed DNS and route your domain through a personal Cloudflare account. However, doing so waives access to our unified custom WAF protection, shared Cloudflare Enterprise performance features, and complimentary business email hosting setup.

⏳ DNS Propagation Notice: Global Nameserver updates typically take between 2 to 24 hours to propagate worldwide. Once active, your free SSL Certificate (HTTPS/Padlock icon) will enable automatically.
